Say to any old school raver “We have a question” and you are sure to hear the chant “DO YOU LOVE YOUR HARDCORE??!”

In the 90s, seminal rave group Ultra-sonic were known as a work hard/party hard duo who filled our dance floors with anthem after anthem.

Touring all over the world and playing to thousands in warehouses, clubs and festivals, their smile inducing music became the soundtrack to our youth.

Mallorca Lee, one half of Ultra-sonic, then continued writing more and more music and went on to play with Bikini State, find chart success with Public Domain and start his MLXL digital lMallorca. Since his humble beginnings in Scotland he has sold over 5 million records worldwide and released over 10 artist albums including 2 solo albums and countless singles.

After his first professional DJ gig at Ministry of Sound in 2001, he was once again gracing world stages including legendary festivals such as Creamfields, Gatecrasher and Reading. And now most recently is playing with a full band to packed clubs showcasing his latest work 'Computer Games'

With his mad stage antics and cheeky larrikin persona NME proclaimed him “more rock and roll than Oasis!”.

One thing's for sure - Mallorca Lee is a genuine, unpretentious guy who has won Australia’s hearts!

We pulled up a lounge and spoke with Mallorca on a rainy June day in Sydney's Crane Bar during his 19th high-energy tour of Australia…

RIP

6th Febuary 2024, only a few months after Mal toured Australia. It is with the greatest sadness today we learnt the Legendary Scottish DJ & Producer Mallorca Lee passed away. The SRH Crew are devistated by this news so soon after his terminal cancer diagnosis. RIP mate.

Here are some messages from his friends and fans in the Sydney Rave History Facebook Group:

Rodd Richards: I am deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Mallorca Lee, an extraordinary musician & friend who played such a significant role in my life and the global rave scene. Over the past 20 years, I was lucky to have had the opportunity to tour him many times experiencing firsthand the magic and energy of his music. Ultra Sonic was the soundtrack of my youth and countless memorable moments on dance floors as a punter and as a DJ. His music not only brought people together but also became a symbol of unity and celebration within the Australian & global rave scene. Mallorca painted this picture for me on one of the multiple tours we did, it hangs on my office wall and I look at it everyday. I will forever cherish this, the many moments shared & the music you made 🖤 Fly high my friend. F*ck you cancer!! 🥺 RIP xxx

Toby Royce: Mal was literally the best friend you'd ever had when you met him, clearly he made every single person feel the same way. A very special gift to make everyone he met feel special in whatever fleeting moment you got with him.. He was a superstar but also the most down to earth person. A true loss that the world is going to feel for years to come.

Nigel B: 💔 Words can't describe how I feel 💔

Nick M: I’ll never forget being 13/14yo and having annihilating rhythm pumping in my backyard for my sisters bday.. was meant to be a small gathering.. but they heard US and it turned into an open rave of over 300ppl with police. Neighbours still talk about it. Yeah, it was sick 👊🏻. Lifetime US fan 💔
